Eczema / Psoriasis

Eczema is a highly individual condition which varies from person to person and comes in many different forms, but is not contagious. In mild cases, the skin is dry, scaly, red and itchy. In more severe cases there may be weeping, crusting and bleeding. Constant scratching causes the skin to split and bleed and leaves it open to infection.

Psoriasis can start at any age, but most often develops in adults under 35 years old. When a person has psoriasis, their skin replacement process will speed up and it takes just a few days to replace skin cells that usually take 21-28 days. This overproduction of skin cells builds up to form raised ‘plaques’ on the skin.

About Eczema

Eczema and contact dermatitis account for 84-90% of occupational skin disease, and affects up to one in five children. It usually appears for the first time before your child is two years old, and more than half of children will outgrow it by the time they're teenagers, but it can also continue into adulthood.

Eczema is a form of dermatitis, which is an acute or chronic inflammation of the skin.

Having eczema means that the skin's barrier doesn't work as well as it should, which makes it drier. Skin will be more prone to infections and allergens can enter the skin more easily, which can make the condition worse.

In mild cases of eczema, the skin is dry, scaly, red and itchy. In more severe cases there may be weeping, crusting and bleeding. Constant scratching causes the skin to split and bleed and also leaves it open to infection.

Atopic eczema is a genetic condition based on the interaction between a number of genes and environmental factors. In most cases there will be a family history of either eczema or one of the other ‘atopic’ conditions i.e. asthma or hay fever. Eczema can't be cured, but it can be controlled with the right treatments.

How The Salt Clinic Can Help

Salt Therapy is a clinically proven, natural, safe and beneficial method of treatment for every age group from 6 months. By visiting The Salt Clinic and breathing in the saline aerosol generated by our medical device and also allowing it to come into contact with the skin it can significantly help to:

  • Kill bacteria that may be present

  • Salt is anti-inflammatory so it will reduce any swelling and improve circulation on the skins surface

  • Reduces IgE levels - Internally, Salt Therapy helps to lower the IgE level which is a measure of antibodies which is often high in people with allergies. Salt Therapy helps to lower this level so the immune system does not over-react to try to deal with the problem

How Often Should You Attend

  • 15-20 sessions are recommended for long term results

  • With irreversible conditions, you may need to come for more sessions if you feel you need them

  • The sessions should be frequent, about 2 to 3 per week is suggested. In most patients, after a course of Salt Therapy symptoms disappear. The treatment's efficacy is estimated up to 98%. Most clients do one to two Salt Therapy courses a year. In between they might come back for some top-up sessions

How It Works

Salt has many beneficial properties including:

  • Anti-bacterial

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Mucolytic effects: loosens excessive mucus and speeds up mucociliary transport

  • Eliminates pathogen agents (airborne pollen)

  • Lessens IgE level (immune system oversensitivity)

  • Strengthen the immune system

During a session, clients breathe in the dry, salt-enriched air into the lungs, the salt is so fine it reaches deep into the lungs and begins to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria and loosens phlegm, which begins to clear rapidly so clients have more lung capacity. The salt will also have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effect on the skin whilst reducing your IgE levels and your sensitivity to allergies. Salt therapy can help to:

  • Lessen the need for inhalers and antibiotics

  • Makes breathing easier after just a couple of sessions

  • Improve lung function

  • Reduce the amount of hospital admittances

  • Reduce the amount of sick days from school / work

  • Ease sneezing, coughing, and shortness of breath

  • Clear phlegm and sticky mucus from lungs

  • Increase the prevention of respiratory tract diseases

  • Fortify your immune system

  • Extend remission times

  • Improve general health and quality of life

  • The treatment's effectiveness is projected at 75-98% contingent on circumstances

  • Relieve irritations and inflammation of the skin

  • Improve sport performance for athletes
